We all have questions about products at some time or another.

In this section we hope to be able to answer some of the most common questions asked. If you can't find an answer to a question you may have - why not use the 'Contact Us' section and we'll try to answer or find you the answer !

Q. What is the difference between 'Dye' and 'Pigment' ink pads / inks ?

A. Firstly lets explain the difference between a Dye and a Pigment:

Dye inks will dissolve in a liquid - similar to putting a teaspoon of sugar in your cuppa and stirring it, you know it's in there but you can't see any trace of it as it has dissolved.

Pigments on the other hand are literally pigments of colour, ground down very finely and suspended in a liquid - so lets now pretend you put a teaspoon of sand in your tea and stirred it - now the sand won't dissolve but is mixed in with your cuppa - tiny grains floating around in the liquid.

So what has that got to do with Ink pads ? Ink pads use the same simple process .....

Dye inks are normally water based, the ink has been dissolved in the liquid and this is what you stamp with.  Dye inks tend to be less opaque than pigment inks.

Pigment ink pads have the colour pigments suspended in a liquid - and are the most opaque of ink pads, this is why pigment ink pads have thicker ink that stays wetter longer - it has to hold the colour pigment within it.

Q. Which is the best Black ink pad ?

A. You will almost certainly need more than 1 black ink pad - as depending on what you are wanting to do - and what you are stamping on to will then define the type of ink pad you need. My personal favourites are Versafine Onyx Black, Archival , Memento and Brilliance.

See our 'How To Guides' for an Ink pad chart and also some ink comparisons.

Q. How do I re-ink my Ink Pad ?

A. Please see our 'How To' section
